Looking Back

It is hard to believe that over a decade ago we started DataTrust Solutions with the mission to help organizations in regulated industries to modernize their data delivery by moving their data forward from proprietary legacy systems. At that time we were the only vendor using cryptographic hashes (digital fingerprints) to prove that the source file and target file contents were identical. Preservation of the original time stamps and metadata was also mandatory as the data was under retention requirements. A Chain-of-Custody report provided file level verified evidence in case the data ended up in court. From years of experience in the industry we also knew that moving the data was only part of a successful migration. The more complex process was to enable the Enterprise Content Management Systems (ECMs) to access it in its new location. Our team had expertise with over 40 applications and this combination of app and storage experience provided competitive differentiation for our software and services.

As a channel centric organization our customers were original equipment manufacturers that were taking out a competitor. We primarily operated as an extension of their Professional Services team. As consequence we became very familiar with most of the storage and archiving technologies along with their deficiencies on the market.

We release our first data management application in 2015 at an EMC announcement event. It provided compliant archiving features using traditional local, networked, hybrid cloud and multi-cloud infrastructure. The success of this product was due to its Compliance flexible features. Ironically although we were one of the first vendors to support hybrid and multi-cloud we had no customers using the Public Cloud due to security concerns. Finally in August 2016 we had our first customer using AWS Glacier as a WORM repository.

It is now mid-2020 and COVID has been a major disruptor, but now organizations are in various states of adapting to a new reality with Cloud taking on a more prominent role. Our mission is similar with an emphasis on modernizing data availability. Users want their data now and really don’t care about the infrastructure required. We help IT organizations evolve by focusing on data access and availability with the objective of making data always available and not be constrained by infrastructure, protocols, technology or location. Virtualization plays a critical role in abstracting the complexity of infrastructure and enabling legacy applications and Windows users to be more cost effectively serviced by Cloud options.
